“We are happy to announce the launch of the first publicly available dry white wine from the vineyards of Château Pichon Baron in Pauillac.”
The Griffons Blanc Sec 2023 is 100% Semillon, made from a massal selection taken from the finest parts of the vineyard of Château Suduiraut, our property in Sauternes, grafted in 2018 onto twenty year old vines in a cool chalky terroir in the northern part of our Pauillac vineyards, known as Boua.
We are extremely pleased with the result, which confirms both our faith in the quality, character and individuality of the Semillon we selected but also our confidence in the quality and suitability of this parcel for making dry white wine at the highest level.
After direct pressing (whole bunches), the wine was vinified in oak barrels of one year old, without malolactic fermentation, and subsequently matured in the barrel for nine months, with regular stirring of the lees according to our tasting of the wines and judgement of when it was necessary.
With the subtly textured structure typical of the semillon grape, this is a wine of great character, fresh balanced and profound.
Les Griffons de Pichon Baron Grand Vin Blanc Sec 2023 is being launched via a selected number of chosen Bordeaux negociants in October 2024.
