AXA Millésimes’ Managing Director Christian Seely and Château Suduiraut’s Technical Director Pierre Montégut announce a major development in the long-term strategy of Suduiraut  with the unveiling of a new range of dry white wines. The 2020 Château Suduiraut Vieilles Vignes Grand Vin Blanc Sec and the 2020 Château Suduiraut Pur Sémillon Grand Vin Blanc Sec are the first releases of these new wines. Names and packaging have been developed in harmony with those of the Grand Vin Sauternes of Suduiraut.

Christian Seely comments:

“Since the launch of our first S de Suduiraut in 2004, we have been discovering the full potential of the 1er Cru Sauternes terroir of Château Suduiraut for producing high quality dry white wines of individual personality.

We feel today that the time is right for a strategic reorientation of our wine production at Château Suduiraut, to reflect this potential.

We are therefore launching three new dry white wine labels from Château Suduiraut, which replace what has gone before and will be the basis for the future.

Of course, the production of great vin liquoreux of the highest quality will remain the same priority as it has always been at Château Suduiraut. The Grand Vin Château Suduiraut Sauternes will continue to be made from the strictest selection of the finest botrytised grapes from old vines at the heart of the Suduiraut vineyard. Quantities produced are likely to be even lower than they have been in recent years, always in the pursuit of the highest quality, which we believe to be key to the future of great Sauternes.

But we also believe that the production of highly individual dry whites of the finest quality to be a vital element in the future of Château Suduiraut, and this is why we are launching the following wines today:

Château Suduiraut Vieilles Vignes Grand Vin Blanc Sec

Château Suduiraut Pur Sémillon Grand Vin Blanc Sec

Lions de Suduiraut Bordeaux Blanc Sec

The launch of these wines is accompanied by a significant investment in the production facilities at Château Suduiraut to give us the ideal conditions in which to elaborate these wines as their volumes increase in the years to come.”

This revision of the range is accompanied by several changes:

Blanc Sec de Suduiraut becomes Lions de Suduiraut Bordeaux Blanc Sec

Conceived in 2015, this dry white wine with a generous, fresh, and fruit-driven style is crafted from a specific terroir in the vineyard with fine, sandy gravel deposits, where the vines are on average 20 years old. These are the same plots that produce the Château’s second liquoreux wine, Lions de Suduiraut Sauternes. It is therefore entirely logical that Blanc Sec de Suduiraut should change its name to become Lions de Suduiraut  Bordeaux Blanc Sec. The Lions de Suduiraut range now comes in two versions, a dry and a sweet, both with a unique style and personality: generous, bright, fresh and more rapidly accessible when young than the great wines.

The first vintage, Lions de Suduiraut Bordeaux Blanc Sec 2021, bottled on 24 February 2022, is already available on the market.

Château Suduiraut Vieilles Vignes Grand Vin Blanc Sec and Château Suduiraut Pur Sémillon  Grand Vin Blanc Sec were created in 2020.

Crafted in small quantities from a terroir ranked as a Sauternes Premier Cru in 1855, Château Suduiraut  Vieilles Vignes Grand Vin Blanc Sec was created in 2020. This blend, mainly Sémillon rounded off with Sauvignon Blanc, results from a strict selection of the best batches from our old vines, whose average age is 45 years, planted on a terroir made up of coarse gravel.

Christian Seely and Pierre Montégut have also created a 100% Sémillon wine, Château Suduiraut Pur  Sémillon Grand Vin Blanc Sec. You will soon be able to discover this exceptional single-variety cuvée produced in 2020.

Château Suduiraut Vieilles Vignes Grand Vin Blanc Sec 2020 and Château Suduiraut Pur Sémillon Grand Vin Blanc Sec 2020 will become available on the market during 2022.
